Introduction
From the cell theory we know that:
All living things are composed of cells
Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in living things
All cells are produced from other cells
However, what makes up cells? How do the billions of cells in our bodies know what to do and how to function? Let’s take a trip inside a cell to find out. Get ready for an exciting ride and prepare to learn how our cells work and the building blocks of life.
Task
Your task during this webquest is to research all the organelle found inside the cells. You will then list what the function of that organelle is and be able to label them on a cell picture.
The cell organelles that you will be researching are the 5 listed below:
Mitochondria
Ribosomes
Golgi Apparatus
Cell Membrane
Nucleus

Process
Here I have listed a couple websites that will help you determine what each cell organelle is used for and why. Look through these websites and become familiar with the cell organelles and their functions. Make a chart or list with each organelle and their function and why it is useful to use. Finally, draw a cell and begin to label the 5 organelles we will be studying closely in this lesson.

Conclusion
As a result of this webquest and this lesson, you should see that cells are the basic building blocks of all living things, plants and animals. You should also understand cells are tiny structures of many many organelles, that work together to make living possible. Cells are a team that must work together to succeed. If one of the small organelles stops working, then all of the others are setup for failure as well. Imagine what could go wrong if one member of a team completely stopped working. What if one organelle inside a cell stopped working? Now you have learned about how cells function, how each small organelle inside the cell works, and how they work together.
