Introduction
Did you know Christopher Columbus discovered Puerto Rico on his voyage to discover the New World? Puerto Rico is located on the Caribbean Sea, it is about 1,000 miles south east of Miami, FL. The capital of Puerto Rico is Old San Juan. The island is a total of 3,459 miles. Although Puerto Rico is a Spanish speaking country and lies in North America it is an American holding, so it falls under U.S jurisdiction but it doesn’t follow under our president.
Task
You and two team members will conquer the island by finding out the answers to the questions.
Task #1: Label and draw ~ The Map and Flag
Task #2: Create a Post Card
Task # 3 Important People
Task#4 Explore the Rain Forest
Task #5 The salesman
Process
Task 1: You and your team will research and find where all the cities, lakes and rivers are located in Puerto Rico and label the map.
Next, your team will find the Puerto Rican flag (a blank copy) and print and neatly color it.
Task 2:
You are learning about the rich culture of Puerto Rico, keeping in mind that Indians use to live on the island before the Spanish settled there; choose images that reflect some pre-Spanish settlement and some after-Spanish settlement. Some areas of investigation could be architecture, arts (including ceramics and sculpture), food, clothing and costumes.
You need to choose four images and put them on post-cards. Be sure to tell about the cultural significance of each image. You may draw or download images from the Internet. Be sure to cite sources used.
For each post-card that you make be sure to explain the significance of the image. Include facts such as name, location, what it is used for, cultural significance and why you deem it important.
Task 3: Puerto Rico has been home to many important people throughout the years. Your task is to research important people who have been born in Puerto Rico. List such things as: who they are, what contributions have they made to society, where do they live now, an interesting fact about their life.
Task 4: Did you know that Puerto Rico is home to the only Rainforest on U.S. soil? In turn this Rainforest is home to some pretty spectacular creatures. Your task is discovering them.
Task 5: Your task is to “sell” other people on PR or a tour of Puerto Rico.
