Introduction
This Webquest is designed to help children (2nd grade specifically) learn about immigration, encourage discussion with family about their immigration, and much more. The goal is for children to come out of this with an understanding of what immigration was like and why they immigrated through readings, videos, tours, and more!
Task
Your tasks include:
- Look at the websites provided/read over the information
- Watch at least 3 of the clips/videos over Ellis Island
- Write a one page paper over what you learned
- Discuss with your family where you came from and use ancestry.com or other websites to help you get information on this
- Write a journal over what you found
- Watch "Virtual Field Trip to Ellis Island" in class
- Do the immigration simulation in class
Process
1. Read the information over Ellis Island, immigration stories, statistics, etc. from the websites provided; write at least 3 things you learned from each
2. Watch at least 3 short clips over Ellis Island; write 3 things you learned from each
3. Write a one page reflection over what you learned about Ellis Island
- What was Ellis Island?
- What were some of the immigration statistics you learned?
- What did you learn about some of the people that immigrated?
- What did you find interesting?
4. Discuss with your family where you came from, how you got here, etc.; if you do not know, you may use ancestry.com or other websites to find more information out about your heritage
5. Write a journal over what you found
- Include things like where they came from, how they got here, what their trip may have been like, personal stories, etc. You may also include how it might have been if you were on the trip with them and what you may have felt.
6. Watch "Virtual Field Trip to Ellis Island" in class
7. Ellis Island Immigration Simulation
