Welcome to the ”Case degli italiani" WebQuest!

In this WebQuest, you will have the opportunity to explore how linguistic and sociocultural characteristics of Italian housing world are intertwined. By engaging in interactive activities with your peers and parents, you will enhance your language skills and better understand the process of real estate transactions. Get ready for an exciting and enriching experience!

Task

1. Vocabulary building

You will explore different floorplans and discuss your preferences by answering.

You will watch two videos and discuss the main differences between Italian and American habits and household organization.

You will create a Flipgrid video selling your dream home

 

2. Grammar

You will watch a video on the conditional verb tense 

You will complete online exercises.

Process

1. First activity: Discuss floorplans of houses or apartments to review vocabulary and think about personal preferences.

  • Please review the apartment floor plan (piantina) provided on the left
  • 1.What do you like and dislike about it?
  • 2.What would you change and why?
  • 3.How would your ideal apartment be like?

2. Second activity: Watch videos and answer given questions in writing about cultural differences and social norms when it comes to residences.

  • Watch this informative video to see some differences between Italian and American houses, and read this article  and reflect on varying cultural norms, historical practices, and personal preferences by answering  the following questions:
  • 1. Where is the washing machine placed in Italian and American houses? What do you think about that placement?
  • 2. What other add objects, preferences, and cultural differences are most intriguing?
  • 3. How could we save more energy in the United States?

3. Third activity: Grammar. 

  • Watch this video to understand better the use and the forms of the conditional tense in Italian.
  • Complete online exercises on this site.

4. Record Flipgrid as an advertisement for selling your dream home that will demonstrate grammar and content knowledge.

  • Create a video presentation showcasing the features of your home, such as its detailed positive assets, location, and what is included in the price. Explain why potential buyers would be interested in purchasing it and would love to own it. Describe the specific features and qualities that make a property attractive and a "must-have." This activity will allow you to practice relevant language skills as a seller or express your preferences as a buyer.

5. Be prepared to discuss which house you would buy and why.
