Introduction
People come to Canada from all over the world. They bring their culture with them and help shape Canada into the country we know. Many of us came from 'somewhere else'. Have you ever thought about what it must be like to immigrate to another country? Is it always easy to be part of a minority group? This webquest gives you a chance to research the treatment of minority populations throughout history in Canada and in other cultures and societies.
Task
Driving questions:
-
How can the exercise of power and authority affect an individual's or group's human rights?

- Use books from the library and the websites provided to research your group and answer the following 'questions':
1. Explain in your own words what "The Declaration of Human Rights" is. Give minimum 5 examples of Human Rights we all share. Watch the videos on the website provided.
2. Introduce your minority group + define the word "Minority" (Use a dictionary).
3. How were they treated in Canada?
- How were they received in Canada?
- Did they face discrimination - what happened?
- How did the exercise of power and authority affect the group's human rights?
- Why do you think it happened, and what can we do today to prevent it from happening again?
4. Have you heard about an individual's or group's Human Rights being affected in Canada or the World today? (It could be other minority groups other than your chosen group).
