It is important to begin preparing for life after high school now! If you plan on living on your own or participating in a transition program after you have graduated, you will need to learn these essential life skills.

Task

Living on your own requires a lot of work on your part. This WebQuest will help you learn what it takes to live on your own after high school. Working a part-time job, whilst studying in your community, you will be earning an income of $2000.00 each month. You will need to research various expenses and show your maths skills by staying within your budget. Good Luck!

Process

Living on your own requires a lot of work on your part. This WebQuest will help you learn what it takes to live on your own after high school. Working a part-time job and studying in your community, you will be earning an income of $2000.00 each month. Expenses that you will need to pay monthly will be:

Rent (which includes gas, electric, and water)

- Pay TV/ Netflix/ Foxtel 

- Mobile Phone

Groceries

- Leisure Activities

You can live with up to TWO other people. If you live with 1 other person you can split the rent in half. If you live with 2 other people you can split the rent into thirds.

Final product: Using a budget sheet template (that you have to find online and adapt to suit your needs) you will show how you calculated your monthly expenses while staying within your budget. You will also create a PowerPoint displaying the expenses you paid for using a picture of the products/services you are using with the monetary amount attached to it.

Roles / Expertise: You will be responsible for submitting your own budget and researching your own expenses. (Submit in schoology both your budget and your powerpoint) Remember you have to SHARE LINKS from your drive)

Use of the Web: You will use the internet to search for an apartment you would like within the city of Colorado Spring. You can use the web site

Evaluation

You will be marked in four categories that will go towards your class mark:

1st: Budget template-how accurate is it?15 points

2nd: PowerPoint-Did you include all components 20 points

3rd: Creativity-How creative you were with your PowerPoint? (animations, background, pictures, transitions)
