Stone Age

Introduction

Congratulations!!! The producers of CNN Student News have selected you to help teach students all around the world about the "Stone Age".  Over three different episodes, student news anchors will be responsible for teaching others about the three Stone Age Periods:  the Paleolithic Era (Old Stone Age), the Mesolithic Era (Middle Stone Age), and the Neolithic Era (New Stone Age).  Throughout each episode it is your responsibility to help produce the news by collecting accurate information to portray life during the Stone Ages.

Task

Task

Each person in your group will choose a job for this project as described below:

1. Sociologist - This person is in charge of finding evidence of how people lived during each era of the Stone Age. They will determine if people lived in societies, were nomadic, etc. They will also look at the art, tools, evidence of language, ceremonies and burial rites of the day. Additionally, they will determine if there was any evidence of fire and how it was used.

2. Nutritionist - This person will provide information on the diet of prehistoric man throughout the different eras during the Stone Age. They will supply information about how food was acquired and how it was shared.

3. Meteoroligist - This person is responsible for providing information about the climate changes from the Ice Age through the Neolithic Revolution. They will provide evidence of necessary adaptations and development due to the climate change.

4. Anthropologist - This person will describe early man's changes in physical size during each era. They will also describe the various habitats through migration based on where fossils have been found.

Upon gathering this information - the group will compile all of their information to design a segment on the "Stone Age" to be presented on CNN Student News. The group will create a Prezi depicting the changes in development and growth for each era during the Stone Age.

Process

Step 1: Decide in your group who will be responsible for each job. The jobs are Sociologist, Nutritionist, Meteorologist, and Anthropologist.

Step 2: Read through each of your job descriptions to determine exactly what you are responsible for.

Step 3: Research and collect information, pictures, and short video that will teach others what you have become an expert on. The more details the better. You will be evaluated on your individual write-up as well as your group's Prezi.

Step 4: Compile all of your information, pictures, and video in your group. Discuss how you want to design your Prezi. *Note: Do not spend a great deal of time on the design colors and theme.  The important part is to teach others.  Pick something simple that will not distract from the information.

Step 5: Create a Prezi to show the three periods of the Stone Age (Old Stone Age, Middle Stone Age, and New Stone Age) for each episode of the CNN Student News.  Each episode should depict the evolution and developmental changes through the ages and how early man adapted to those changes. Determine how each person in your group will be involved in the presentation.

Sociologist

Information to Gather

As the group Sociologist it is your job to find out how early man lived and interacted throughout the ages. It is also important to show how man evolved and developed during this time. You should answer the following questions for each period of time.

5.  Is there any evidence of fire - and how was it used?

6.  Is there any evidence of language?

Do not be limited by the above questions. As you are researching you may find even more interesting information than the questions provided. The more information and details that you find will make your presentation more interesting.

Nutritionist

Information to Gather

As the group Nutritionist it is your job to find out what early man ate and how they obtained their food. It is also important to show how man's diet and hunting/gathering/agricultural practices evolved and developed during this time. You should answer the following questions for each period of time.

2.  How did they acquire their food?

3.  What tools were used to acquire their food?

4.  Did early man work cooperatively in food acquisition?

5.  Is there any evidence of fire - and do they use it for cooking?

6.  How does climate affect their food acquistion?

Do not be limited by the above questions. As you are researching you may find even more interesting information than the questions provided. The more information and details that you find will make your presentation more interesting.

Meteorologist

Information to Gather

As the group Meteorologist it is your job to find out about the climate during the Stone Ages and how early man adapted to the climate changes. You should answer the following questions for each period of time.

1. What climate changes occured during the Stone Ages?
