Introduction
Ancient civilizations are so impressive that we still learn about them today! You will need to remember everything you have learned about Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt to be successful in mastering Ancient India...I hope you are ready for the challenge!
First, A Few Notes (you should write these down):
- People that live in the country of India are called Indians (now you know why we should refer to Native Americans as such- they are from the America's, not India!)
- The ancient Indian people lived mainly in an area called the Indus River Valley (YEP, you guessed it! Near a river!).
- The country of India is on the continent of Asia.
- India is often called a SUBCONTINENT. It is called this because of its unique location. India is smushed right between the giant Himalayan Mountains and the even more giant, Indian Ocean. So you see, India is almost secluded from the rest of Asia because of its location... exactly why is is called a SUBcontinent! (Geeze- can you imagine? In ancient times, they really were secluded!)
To begin this exciting trip through time, you will be using something called a WebQuest. (You are on a quest to find answers while on the web....brilliant, right? :)
1. First click on the tab that says "task." Here you will find your first ...... task (assignment)!
Task
1. This journey (unit) through Ancient India will take place in increments.
2. You will need to be sure that your assignments are completed and turned in by the due dates. Once the due dates have passed, you may not be able to get back to the information needed to complete the assignments because the entire unit is web-based. This means that you should plan on getting everything accomplished earlier than expected in case something comes up and you are unable to have computer access.
3. Your first task will be to obtain a worksheet from your teacher.
4. Secondly, you will watch a 4 minute video that is meant to introduce and summarize most of the topics we will be covering in greater depth at a later time.
5. Next, you will watch the same video again, this time completing the worksheet as you go.
6. Turn your assignment in to your teacher. The beauty of having a video for this assignment is that you can pause, stop, rewind, fast-forward, and replay it as many times as you need to! Every paper should earn a grade of 100%!
Process
1. Ask your teacher for the "Ancient India WebQuest assignment number 1," that goes along with the Crash Course video that you are about to watch (if she hasn't already given it to you).
2. Review the questions on the assignment...make sure you understand them and become very familiar with them BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO!
3.Have a pencil and an eraser ready to go!
4. Watch the video in its entirety. I RECCOMMEND THAT YOU DO NOT TRY TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS THE FIRST TIME THROUGH! The video is very fast paced. Give yourself time to wrap your brain around the concept of the crash course videos before trying to conquer them!
5. Now, watch the video. Keep your hand on the mouse so you can click pause when you hear an answer to one of the questions on the worksheet. You can rewind, pause, fastforward, stop, and replay as many times as you need to. Fill in the answer sheet with the correct answers.
6. Study your sheet before turning it in; you just might see these questions again!
7. Click HERE to watch the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7ndRwqJYDM
Evaluation
Your answers will be evaluated as usual....
- Star Quality
- one point per question asked
- opportunity for 3 extra credit points
- Turn in on time!
