The Body

Introduction

Isn’t it amazing how we can eat and the minute we do it just travels through tubes and get broken down so it could be released again? Or how we can move from place to place by just putting one foot in front of another? Or how our faces flood with liquid when we do hard work – what’s it called? Oh yeah, sweat. It’s like we are machines or processors. Anyway, that is how great our bodies are. There are so many amazing things it can do, and today we are going to take a look at them.

Task

Take this quiz and see how much you already know about the body. We will go over the answers afterwards.

1. What is the largest organ in/on the body?

2. There is a framework that supports the body. What is it called?

3. List at least ten body parts and give one function of each.

Process

You will have a discussion with your teacher and classmates where you will be asked to think about your own body, or look at a classmate's body.

You will talk about what you see and what seems to be the biggest or most obvious thing there.

Afterwards the teacher will ask you to share what comes to mind when you think of the word 'framework' and what you think supports the body (helps it to stand, sit, move dance etc).

The final thing you will do is to talk about some of the things that your body helps you to do. You will make jottings and comparisons and list them as its functions.

Take a look at some of these sites that can help with your answers.

- writing paragraphs that are detailed and show evidence of research.
