Introduction
Black History Month is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about, and honour, the contributions Black Canadians have made to our country.
Scan the Government of Canada Black History Month page and watch the video "Proud of Our History"
https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/black-history-month.html
Black History Month is also an opportunity to go beyond our own borders and look to the Catholic (which means "universal") Church, to learn more about Black Saints and Religious who have given their lives in the service of Jesus Christ and the Gospel.
First, learn more about the process of becoming a saint in the Catholic Church by watching the video below, and answering the questions in section one on your note outline.
Task
This lesson will use videos and articles to help you to get to know, or learn more about, some Black Saints and living and deceased black nuns, priests, martyrs and faithful followers of Christ.
You will record your answers on the note outline and complete it by Monday, February 4th.
Your responses to the questions will be discussed as a class on the due date.
You will also be responsible for writing a reflection which will be due on Friday, February 8th.
Process
Read the articles and watch the videos on Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe and Father Joseph Philippe. Answer the questions on section two of the note outline.
