The Mayan Civilization

Introduction

Hello Dream Team!

Welcome to our first adventure in Webquests. Before we begin, let's start by opening up a word document where you will save your work.

  • Open a word document.
  • Save the word document (even before beginning) as the following: Network --> ParkviewAS --> users --->
     PARoom18 --> MsBledsoe ---> Mayan Civilization ---> Your name.

Now you are ready to begin. In this webquest, we will explore a culture known as The Maya. They were a mighty civilization, one we are still learning from today!

Now, carry on to your "TASK".

Task

Your task is to:

1. Follow the "PROCESS" as it's been laid out for you.

2.Read the articles provided in order to learn more about the Mayan civilization.

3. Watch a few short video on the Mayans that spark your interest from the site provided.

4. Respond to the questions asked of you, demonstrating through your responses that you have read and watched what has been assigned to you.

5. Have fun!!

Process

1. First, did you create your word document? If you have, proceed!

2. Next, read the following article to begin your exploration of the Maya culture. CLICK HERE.

3. On your word document, respond to the following questions. Be sure to number the questions as you respond, and respond in complete sentences.

  1. Where were the Maya located?
  2. During what time period did they consider to be the "golden age" of the Maya Empire?
  3. Why do you think it was considered the golden age?

  2. At what time did the Maya Empire begin to decline?
  3. What do you find most interesting about the Maya?

4. In one paragraph (4-6 sentences), respond to the following question using evidence from your text:

  1. What are some leading theories as to what lead to the decline of the Maya Empire? Which theory do you think makes the most sense? Why?
Evaluation

You will be evaluated and scored by the following rubric:

40 points - The student has completed all tasks required of this assignment. They have responded to the questions asked in a way that shows they have read the text, watched the videos, and put thought into their work. The student has also written a one paragraph response that shows effort and the knowledge of what they have learned.

35 points - The student has completed all tasks required of this assignment. They have responded to the questions asked, but they have shown a lack of effort in that their responses are short, incomplete, and show little effort. The student has written a one paragraph response that shows some effort and some knowledge of what they have learned.

30 points - The student has completed most of the tasks required of this assignment. The student responded to most of the questions asked in a way that shows they have read the text and watched the vidoes. The student has also written a one paragraph response that shows effort, however they fail to respond completely to the prompt.

20 points and below - The student has failed to complete the task that was assigned to them. They turned in some work, however the work was incomplete and does not show that they have read or watched what was assigned to them, nor does it demonstrate any effort was made.
