From Basura to Ginto: Making Low-Cost Organic Fertilizer from Fish Waste and Farm Waste for Gensan Farmers - By SHARMELYN MATA ODING

Introduction

Imagine you are an Agriculture Extension Worker in General Santos City. Farmers complain that chemical fertilizer is very expensive. At the same time, in the Fish Port, tons of fish guts and scales are thrown away every day causing pollution.

What if we can solve two problems at once?

Task

Your team will create:

1. A step-by-step infographic poster on HOW TO MAKE fish waste organic fertilizer (Fish Amino Acid / Compost)

2. A 1-minute pitch to convince farmers: Bakit mas maganda ang organic kaysa chemical?

Your final product: 1 poster made in Canva + 1 short video guide for farmers.

Process

Step 1: Group into 3. Roles: Researcher, Agri-Technician, Designer.

Step 2: Study the Resources below about Fish Amino Acid (FAA), composting, and organic fertilizer.

Step 3: Answer these guide questions: What is Fish Amino Acid? What are its benefits? How to make it? What is the correct ratio of fish waste and molasses? How long to ferment?

Step 4: Design your low-cost recipe that Gensan farmers can do at home.

Step 5: Create poster in Canva showing materials, procedure, and benefits.

Step 6: Record short advisory for farmers.

Step 7: Submit your WebQuest link to the teacher.
