Avoiding Plagiarism

Introduction

In this WebQuest you will be learning about plagiarism and practice identifying plagiarism.

Knowing the basics about plagiarism will help you in your writing.  Just knowing that there is a possibility there could be any type of plagiarism will have you thinking about it deeper when writing a paper.  You will then look deeper into it and seek help to see if you need to cite something or not.

You will be watching a video and taking a quiz on it.  Then you will have practice time identifying plagiarism.

Here are Indiana State Standard that are being used for this activity.

  1. Formulate an inquiry question, and refine and narrow the focus as research evolves.
  2. Gather relevant information from multiple authoritative sources, using advanced searches effectively, and annotate sources.
  3. Assess the usefulness of each source in answering the research question.
  4. Synthesize and integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of ideas.
  5. Avoid plagiarism and over reliance on any one source and follow a standard format (e.g.,MLA, APA) for citation.
  6. Present information, choosing from a variety of formats.

Through this we will specifically be focusing on plagiarism.  Learning about plagiarism is a huge part in writing your papers.  It is something that is taken very seriously.
