Introduction

Is the person who wrote this qualified to be telling me this information? 

Is their viewpoint biased? Is this information accurate?

Are their words impacting me? Does their impact match their purpose?

 

These are questions we should be asking ourselves when we read non-fiction. 

Task

Your goal is to analyze an author's qualifications, viewpoint, and impact. 

Process

1. Read the article titled "Teenagers who don't get enough sleep at higher risk for mental health problems

2. Analyze the author's qualifications (skills or types of experiences that you need for a particular job or activity) by looking at these websites

3. Analyze the author's viewpoint/accuracy by looking at these websites

4. Analyze the author's impact. 

  • Does the author get her point across? 
  • What is her purpose/goal? Did she want to persuade, inform, entertain, explain, or describe?
  • Did she achieve her goal?
