Hey there, fifth-grade English students! Today, we are diving into how we ask about personal information. We will start by watching a cool video, then listen to the grammar explanation, read a dialogue, do some fun tasks, try out what we have learned in role-plays, and then play a quiz in Kahoot. 

During this class, you as a student will: 

  • enrich your vocabulary with new words, 
  • learn about grammar related to WH-questions,
  • practice reading, comprehension, and writing.

Ever wonder how we find out personal stuff about someone? It's all in the questions we ask! Today, I'll break down the way of using questions, or as we call them, WH-questions. Ready to start? Let's go!

Task 1. Read the dialogue below.

*Anna and Megan are at the school dance club. Anna is a member but Megan is new.

Miss Khan: Good morning, Anna! 

Anna: Good morning, Miss Khan. This is my friend. She's here for Dance Club. 

Miss Khan: Great. What's your first name? 

Megan: It's Megan.

Miss Khan: What's your surname, Megan?

Megan: It's 'Cheung'.

Miss Khan: Can you spell it?

Megan: C-H-E-U-N-G.

Miss Khan: And what's your address?

Megan: It's 24, Maple Lane.

Miss Khan: What's your phone number, Megan? 

Megan: It's 734 6458.

Miss Khan: Great. Dance Club is every Thursday at four o'clock.

Evaluation

(5 mins) 

Students will be assessed based on each activity. During this class, you are expected to reach up to 20 points in total.

The first activity, which is worth 5 points, will assess the reading skills of the students. The second activity will evaluate their ability to connect questions with corresponding answers; this activity has a total of 5 points. The other activity has a total of 10 points, as students will be assessed for their skills in both writing and acting. 

Based on the points you have accumulated, your performance is evaluated in the following manner:

  • Not good (0-10 points): This level suggests that there is a need for improvement.
  • Good (11-15 points): This level indicates a solid performance.
  • Excellent (16-20 points): This level reflects an outstanding performance.
