Asexual reproduction

Introduction

Introduction to asexual reproduction

Have you ever wondered what happens within your body every day? The ongoing process of replacing cells is occurring constantly. Unlike sexual reproduction, asexual reproduction only requires a single parent. A new individual grows from part of the parent's body in a cell division process using mitosis

Task

In the task, you will be using the material provided and external sources to introduce to your classmates the characteristics of cancer and a type of specific cancer. through the creation of a poster or brochure

When completed, you will upload the completed work to the Google classroom

Process

What is mitosis

  • Mitosis is a process in which a parent (nucleus) divides to form two identical cells (children)
  • When the nucleus fails to be copied properly, the new cells may be missing important genetic information to function properly. The cells may die, or cause cancer

Cancer and cell cycle

Carcinogens

  • A common way cancers are formed is due to carcinogens that are commonly found in daily lives. Nicotine, radiation, alcohol, etc. are all types of substances that can cause cells to divide incorrectly.

Main activity

  • In this WebQuest, you will be using information about cancer and asexual reproduction to create a poster or brochure to inform others
  • Include the following in your poster
  1. Title
  2. What is asexual reproduction
  3. How do cells asexually reproduce
  4. What is cancer
  5. How does cancer form
  6. How are cancer cells different from normal cells
  7. What is an example of cancer and what increase its chances of forming (Hint: find carcinogens)
  8. Picture of a cancer cell
