Introduction
Art can teach you about colors, how to mix them and have fun. Students will show their understanding of concepts of primary, secondary and intermediate colors.
Task
Students will paint each color onto each piece of the pie until the pie looks like a rainbow.

Process
1. Whole class discussion of colors and the concept of color mixing.
2. Preview project and instructions with class.
3. Helpers pass out table supply baskets.
4. Students will paint the 12 paper plate slices per color wheel, beginning with the primary colors, then secondary, and finally intermediate. (Refer to color chart for mixing colors)
5. Students will construct their slice of the pie and one for each of three friends. They will first carefully sort out pieces by primary, secondary or intermediate color.
6. Put a star by your favorite piece! If you have time, decorate your pie piece with whipped cream and a cherry on top!

Conclusion
This activity teaches students the basic colors in art and how to mix them correctly and get other colors. The rainbow pie is a fun and easy way to each students about colors.
