It's Moving Day! You may get new carpet. How much carpet do you need?

It's almost St. Patrick's Day! You may drink a green shamrock shake. How much can you fit in a cup?

It's time for a webquest to learn about area and volume!

7.G.6 I know the formulas for area, volume, and surface area of two and three dimensional shapes.

Task

Task: In this Webquest, you will search the internet to find the necessary information for 7.G.6. This standard is all about area and volume.

You will create a note page with the necessary information. By the end of the Webquest, you will have everything that you need to study for your test on Friday.

When you are finished searching the web and collecting information, you will play on Quizlet to help you memorize all the formulas you will need to know.

Objective: I know the formulas for area and volume.

Process

Phase 1: Set up Cornell Notes. Title them "7.G.6 Area and Volume Webquest". Include the following I can statement - I know the formulas for area and volume. Don't forget your heading and dot!

On the left, write:

1. Area Definition

2. Volume Definition

3. Square Area Formula

4. Rectangle Area Formula

5. Triangle Area Formula

6. Circle Area Formula

7. Circle Circumference Formulas

8. Trapezoid Area Formula

9. Cube Volume Formula

10. Rectangular Prism/Cuboid Volume Formula

11. Triangular Prism Volume Formula

12. Pyramid Volume Formula

Phase 2: Use the link to find the definitions of AREA and VOLUME. Record these on the right side of your Cornell Notes.

https://www.mathsisfun.com/definitions/index.html

Use the link to learn about AREA for all the shapes listed to the left of your Cornell Notes. Record what you learn about how to find area on the right side of your Cornell Notes.

Use the link to learn about VOLUME for all the shapes listed to the left of your Cornell Notes. Record what you learn about how to find volume on the right side of your Cornell Notes.

https://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/common-3d-shapes.html

Feel free to use the quiz buttons at the bottom of each page to test your knowledge as you navigate through the pages.

Phase 3: Write a summary at the bottom of your Cornell Notes summarizing the connections you find between finding area and volume of the two- and three-dimensional shapes. Identify any similarities and differences. Identify any tools you can use to help you memorize the formulas. Color in your dot.

Phase 4: Choose Match, Gravity, or Test (or a combination of them) on quizlet to learn the formulas and definitions until time is called for the end of class.

You will turn in your Cornell Notes on Friday before the Test (in your G folder!).

You will be graded on the following information:

* Did you set up the notes as described?

* Did you describe each left side item in detail on the right as provided by the sites provided?

* Did you include formulas for area and volume as necessary?

* Did you provide a detailed summary using complete sentences and seventh grade language explaining connections and memory tools?

* Did you color in your dot as it applies to you?

Flashcards will also be collected on Friday before the 7.G.6 Test.

You will be graded on the the following information:

* Did you copy the cards as they are on quizlet?

* Did you punch a hole and attach with string?

****We will be making the flashcards in class together on Tuesday!!

Be sure to use your flashcards to study for your test on Friday!!!!

Conclusion

You now have all of the tools necessary for knowing and memorizing the formulas that you will use for the rest of the week.

We will make flashcards tomorrow reviewing this information together.

We will go over Released Test Questions (RTQ) that cover this information on Wednesday.

We will review using Kahoot, Quizlet, and Front Row on Thursday.

By Friday, you will have all of the practice you need to pass your test, but it is up to YOU to memorize all of the formulas for you to use this week.

You can and will pass your test on Friday!

This webquest will lead students to find information on area and volume as per the Common Core Math Standards.

7.G.6. Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume and surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.

The websites used are Math Is Fun and Quizlet.

Students will already need to know how to set up Cornell Notes. The mentioned "dot" is colored red, yellow, or green to determine level of understanding.

You will need pre-cut index cards and string, as well as a hole puncher.
