Animals and Communication

Introduction

Have you ever wondered if animals communicate with one another?  Do they have their own language?  Do other animals know when they are mad, sad, or annoyed?  This Webquest will take you on a journey to investigate the power of communication in the animal world.

 

Task

Students will...

  • ANSWER the four essential questions below.
  • You will EXPLORE several animals and their communication styles.
  • You will CHOOSE an animal to become an expert on their style of communication.
  • You will CREATE a Prezi with information about your animal.
  • In your presentation you will PRESENT information about your animal's communication style.

 

Process

2. Answer the following questions.

  • What are 7 ways animals communicate?
  • What is one reason animals signal to one another?
  • How does Koko the gorilla communicate?
  • How much can dogs understand of what humans say?

3. Watch

4. Research one animal's specific forms of communication.  

5. Create a Prezi and include the following information.

  • Name of your animal
  • Animal's habitat
  • Animal's diet
  • Ways your animal communicates
  • What causes them to communicate? hunger, anger, mating?
  • How does this help your animal to survive and thrive?

6. Present your animal to the class using your Prezi.

Followed directions It was clear student accessed all of the given information for Webquest and completed questions. Student accessed most of the given information for the Webquest. Student followed some of the instructions given. It was unclear as to if the student followed instructions given for Webquest.
Presentation  Presentation included excellent eye contact, voice control, body language, and content Presentation had good content and presenter had decent presentation skills. Presentation lacked quality content and student struggled with presentation skills.  Presentation did not have required content and presentation skills were lacking.
Prezi  Prezi was visually appealing with correct grammar and spelling and a logical flow of information. Prezi was good with less than 2 mechanical errors. Overall good flow of information. Prezi had more than 5 mechanical errors and flow was confusing. Prezi was difficult to understand with numerous mechanical errors. 
Prezi included all required components. Prezi did not lack any required components listed. Prezi lacked 1 component listed. Prezi lacked 2 required components. Prezi lacked 3 or more required components.
