Missing Animal Identities!
The caretakers have forgotten all the names of the animals. Last night, someone stole all the animal fact sheets in front of the enclosures. The caretakers need your help making new fact signs so the visitors know what animal they are looking at. The fact sheets should have the name of the animal, what class it is, and one interesting fact about this animal.

Task

Your task is to investigate and figure out the different names of the animals, what class each is, and one interesting fact about this animal. Help save the day by creating these fact sheets for the staff and visitors.
The three questions you need to answer are:
1. What are the names of the animals?
2. What is the class of each animal?
3. What animals live on land vs. water?

Process

This is the steps you need to save the day for the zoo.
1. Get on a computer.
2. Go to this link and watch the movie
3. After watching the first video, go to this link to watch the next video
4. Try to remember 4 animals you see in each video.
5. After watching the video, print a picture of the animal with the name of the animal written below in your best handwriting.
6. Show it to me to check for accuracy.
7. Re-watch the videos from before to choose an animal that lives on land and an animal that lives in the water.
8. Now build a web on this link (https://bubbl.us/025630062001291665) with 1 animal that lives on land and 1 animal that lives in the water. On the web include what class they are and one interesting fact. You do not need to create an account, just bypass that part.
9. Turn in web so I can check it for accuracy.
10. Now grab two sheets of paper and write up one paragraph each on the name of the animal, what class they are, and one interesting fact. One animal lives on land the other in water.
11. Turn in your draft of the sheets for me to check for accuracy.
12. Revise and Edit your introduction card to have: All needed components, your best spelling and grammar, and any other notes I gave you. You can write this or type them, your choice. If you choose to write it please use your BEST handwriting.
13. Once you have completed both cards, draw and color a picture of your animal on the card. You can then turn it in.

Evaluation

Your grade will be passed on two parts. The first part is participation. Did you use your time wisely and put the best effort into your product? The second component is the fact sheets. Did you follow all instructions? Did you follow the full writing process and make you best work?

Teacher Page
I am a student at the Community College of Denver (CCD). I will be graduating in May 2018 from CCD with an Associate of Arts Degree with a designation in Elementary Education. I will then be starting at the University of Northern Colorado to get my Bachelors in Elementary Education. Most of my jobs have involved working with children. I worked at the Glendale YMCA from May 2014 until February 2018, and plan to return there for part of the upcoming summer. I also worked at the Denver Zoo as a Kindergarten and 1st grade instructor in their summer program from 2014-2017. Through these experiences, I have learned that I am interested in teaching as I believe teaching is the way I can best have a positive impact on the world. I also want to be a teacher as I think I can have a positive impact on students and, through sharing my own experiences, can motivate them and teach them how to succeed. My dream job is to teach elementary age students and introduce them to my science passions. One of my goals is to go overseas and teach students in another country. I want to do this to learn about the different challenges that come up in other countries/cultures around education. Second, I want to teach students how to be successful in school. Lastly, my goal is to teach students life skills in addition to the educational content. A teacher is not just in the classroom to teach subjects, but to be a role model, mentor, and an emotional support person in the classroom, as well. When I am not in the classroom teaching, I love traveling domestically and internationally (Iowa, Hawaii, Japan, Morocco, Indonesia, and Fiji), scuba diving, working with animals, and hanging out with my dog Luna.
