Introduction
This webquest is designed for 2nd grade students. The students will be able to learn about the different habitats that animals live in. The students will participate in numerous activities including making their own animal habitat. These activities will enhance the students understanding of animal habitats.
INTRODUCTION

You are an explorer that needs to find one animal from each habitat. There are 5 different kinds of habitats, and it is up to you to find out what they are and the types of animals that live in them. Students will partcipate in various activities to learn more about different animals and their habitat in which they live.
Task
Your activities would be:
First, the students will choose an animal of their choice from different habitats.
The students will then create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting two different habitats.
The students will be able to explore habitats on the internet playing various games and researching their animal and habitat.
To extend this activity, students will create an actual animal habitat shoebox.
Process

DISCUSSION
The environment in which animal lives in is referred to as its habitat. A habitats is a place where living things live and how they survive in that area. Animals have basic needs for air, water , food , shelter, and space.
There are 5 different major animal habitats:
1. Forest Habitat - type of habitat which covers a large area where many trees and plants and animals live. The plants provides different shade to protect animals.
2. Water Habitat - some animals love water habitat and they cannot survive without it . Some water habitats are made up of freshwater like ponds or rivers other habitats are made up of salt water.
3. Desert Habitat - deserts are characterized by dry conditions and a wide temperature range. These are defined regions that has a less than 254 mm of annual rainfall precipitation.
4. Grassland Habitat - big open spaces grass. About one quarter of land on earth is in grassland.
5. Tundra Habitat - these are located at high altitudes on mountains around the world. About 1/5 of the earth's land is tundra.
You will work in groups of 4 for the actvities designed for this lesson.
1. Create a Venn diagram using construction paper. Choose any two habitats that you have learned, and tell how they are alike and different.
2. Use a shoebox to create an animal habitat.

Conclusion

After performing this webquest, you will have a better understanding of animal habitats. You will be able to look at certain animals and know what kind of environment they live in. You have learned certain characteristics of each animal habitat. The animal habitats are wetlands, desert, tundra, rainforest, and grasslands.
Look at the picture of the world. Pick out one area and see if you can pick out different kind of animals found in this area? What kind of habitat is in this area?
