Introduction

INTRODUCTION

London is one of the most exciting and cosmopolitan cities in Europe and it has the greatest concentration of major attractions in Britain. It is an exciting and pulsating metropolis of the new millennium, a melting pot of both people and culture and a fascinating city of diverse contrasts.

You have decided to travel to London with your friends in  your next holiday.

Task

TASK

I would like you to work in three groups of 5 using the computer in the classroom for the next 2 classes and at home.

You will have to look for accurate information about London and its best tourist attractions. Once you have searched the information, you will have to decide which places you would like to visit and then make a brochure, in which you can include pictures, drawings, maps, etc.

You will present this brochure to the class saying which places you have decide to visit and why and also sharing the information with your classmates.

In order to do the task, you will have to follow these steps:

A)  Work in  two groups of five. Each member will have a specific role and a specific topic to work on.  

1-  Search and write a brief history of the city, population, language, etc.

2- Search and write about the means of transport available in London, prizes.

3-  Search  and write about holidays or festivals in Britain, dates, customs, etc

4- Search and write about typical food, sports, markets. Recommend some restaurants to eat traditional English food, places for going shopping, etc.

5- Find and write something about at least5 places of the tourist interest.

B) After finishing gathering all the information you will need, decide which places you think are the best places to visit and  make a brochure to present it to your classmates. You can add any photos and drawings to make it more attractive.

CONCLUSION

You have done extensive research and learnd much about London. You have experienced the difficulty of working on your own but also having to work cooperatively. In your cooperative groups you were required to make decisions about which places were best to visit. Ypur findings, decisions and analysis produced a brochure which had to be presented to your classmates.

Now, you will be able to organize a trip to London with you friends and Family, suggesting the most interesting places to visit, recommend the best places to stay inb, restaurants, monuments, means of transports and so many other things.

Now you a tourist guide of London!

You could also be able to gather information abouut any city you want and be ready to make incredible trips around the world!

This webquest was created to a young adults intermediate group who wants to learn English to travel as well as to their work.

This webquest was planned to be done in 2 sessions of 60 minutes each.

Steps:

Session 1:

1- Divide the students in 3 groups of 5. Explain that each member of the group will have a specific role and a specific topic to work on:

Give students feedback on content and language to be used in the task.

If time, web search competition on preview the kind of information students will be search at home and check if everyone is able to use search engines and understand the task.

Explain that after finishing gathering information they have to choose the places they recommend people to visit and make a brochure in order to present it to their classmates.

Session 2:

Students present their brochure to the class, explaining why they have chosen the places. Each member of the group have to talk about her/his part.

Correct the students if necessary.

Aims

The students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge by presenting in front of their peers, using appropriate vocabulary and grammar. They will be able to work collaboratively and creativily in group.

They will also be able to talk about their preferences in a travel situation as well as choose places to visit.
