Introduction
—The purpose of this webquest is to help American middle school kids understand the mechanics of the FIFA World Cup and it’s importance as the world’s largest sporting event. Sport is often overlooked in cultural/social studies, but it is essential for communicating on a global scale. Teams of three students will work together to plan and organize the next World Cup in 2018 on PowerPoint , based on the information they find on the previous World Cups.
Task
Task 1—As a group, use your internet searching skills, and the resources I have provided in the next slide to answer the following questions.—What is the FIFA World Cup?—How is the tournament organized?—How many nations participated in the last world cup?—What is a Host Nation?—What does the winner receive?Task 2—Your second assignment is to search for the three previous World Cup tournaments and identify these these key concepts:—1. Who were the host nation for all three past tournaments?—2.Which cities and stadiums were used?—3.Which Countries were the winners, runner-ups, and third place teams?—Provide a written introduction on your PowerPoint to explain the importance of the World Cup in cultural studies.
