Introduction
Welcome to Ancient Egypt, The Gift of the Nile! This civilization began some 5,000 years ago along the banks of the Nile River in Northern Africa. It flourished for some 3,000 years; longer than most other civilizations in world history. Egyptian history begins around 3300 B.C. , when Egyptians had enough symbols in their writing to record history. Around this time, an Egyptian king named Menes, united Lower Egypt and Upper Egypt into a single kingdom. No other civilization would compete with the magnificent building, its wealth, or its long centuries of peace. To a large extent, this is because other civilizations did not have Egypt’s main advantage – it’s river. The Nile River, the world’s longest river, is said to bring Egypt to life as the land is often referred to as “The Gift of the Nile.” The ancient Egyptians believed that the Nile had some mysterious powers that brought life to a barren desert region.
