Introduction

The lesson will cover the American Revolution

 

​ ​ ​ ​ ​  ​ ​ The students will be creating American Revolution Lapbooks to help them better understand the concepts. We will have a short discussion about the American Revolution. I will then tell students that they are going to create a lapbook and show them an example.

 

 

Task

Formative assessment will be made during the lesson based on questioning done over the material as students complete the project. Summative assessment will be made from written responses within the Lapbook.

Who were the Loyalists?

Who were the Patriots?

Who were the Neutrals?

When was the Declaration on Independence signed?

Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

What was the Declaration of Independence about?

When and where did important battles occur? Battle of Bunker Hill, Battle of Yorktown, Battle of Lexington and Concord.

What was John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington and Paul Revere's contribution to the American Revolution?

Process

The learner will be able to explain the different groups of people involved in the war.

The learner will be able to explain major battles and events during the war.

The learner will be able explain the contributions that were made during the American Revolution.

Students , today we will be creating an American Revolution Lapbook. I have shown you an example of the completed product. We are going to do this together step-by-step. I will show you each step on the projector. If you have any questions, please ask. Also, work with your partner or table to check that you are completing the book as directed. 

 

Each student will get a folder, packet, glue stick, and scissors.

 

We will now complete the cover of the book. Each of you will receive a paper. Please cut the first image out like this. ( Teacher proceeds to show an example) Now you may cut your paper. When your paper is cut, you may glue it to the front of the book to match the illustration on the overhead. 

 

The students will continue this process in class until each section of the lap book is complete.

Conclusion

Today we began class with review questions over the American Revolution. Raise your hand if you can tell me the difference between a loyalist and patriot? Who made the midnight ride to warn the colonists that the British were coming? How did Great Britain finally recognize American independence?

The extended assessment will be a vocabulary test over the American Revolution.
