The Beauty Of Cake Making!

Introduction

Hello Grade 8 Class!! CHCS school is excited to invite you to online cake baking lessons from Febuary 11 to 13, 2015.

We are excited to invite you to a baking class where you will learn all the basic's of baking including proper mixing skills, how to use materials properly and how to decorate a cake in a nice way.

             

   

                                 

Task

The task that will be spread out over the course of three days is learning the basic steps to making a rainbow cake.

  • We will be looking at the proper ways to use baking utensils
  • We will be looking at how to prepare your cake mix for the different layers of the rainbow cake
  • Lastly we will be looking at how to decorate the final product
Process

Step one: The basics of using baking utensils

  • You will learn what each utensil is for and how to properly use it to bake your cake.

Step two: The actual steps of cake baking

  • First you will need all the necessasry ingredient

      Cake

  • 2  boxes Betty Crocker™ SuperMoist™ vanilla cake mix

    2  cups water

    1  cup vegetable oil

    6  eggs (if you are vegan you can substitute one egg for 1/4 cup of apple sauce and 1 teaspoon on baking powder)

    2  packages (2.7 oz each) Betty Crocker™ classic gel food colors
    Step Three
  • In large bowl, beat cake mix, water, oil and eggs with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, then on medium speed 2 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Divide batter evenly among 6 small bowls, about 1 1/3 cups each.
  • Add 6 different colours of food colouring to each bowl of cake. Do not add to much but add enough to make the colour stand out.
    Step Four
  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F
  • Bake for 18 - 20 minutes or until a tooth pick comes out clean from the middle of the cake
    Step five
  • Bring together the ingredient for the icing

     Buttercream Frosting

  • 1  cup shortening
    1  cup butter, softened
    1  bag (2 lb) powdered sugar
    2  teaspoons vanilla
    to 4 tablespoons milk
  • Mix all ingredients in a small mixing bowl until smooth

      Step Six

  • level all the cakes if needed to so that they fit well together
  • start with one cake and ice the top contrinue this until the last cake is put on top
  • Continue putting icing on the top and along the side until all spots on the cake are covered

     Step seven

  • You may use fruit, sprinkles, candies or whatever your heart desires to make your cake look beautiful

Task Evaluation
Using proper amounts when measuring 10 marks
Baking for the right amount of time 3 marks
The building of the cake 5 marks
The overall appearance 10 marks
Being able to follow directions 10 marks

Your final evaluation will be out of 38 marks.
