Introduction
Many types of research in cells can help improve the lives of many types of people.
Task
Research in cells is making new discoveries and breakthroughs every day. This Web Quest presentation will describe some ways cell research can improve many people's lives.
Process
1. Memory loss can occur as you get older. This happens due to nerve cells in the brain break down and can affect memory. Research into improving memory by stimulating the brain can help to improve memory as you get older. Some ways to stimulate the brain is to give rewards and challenges and even exercise.
2. The spinal cord has a certain type of cell. This cell is hard to replace. New research in changing normal fat cells into cells that are in the spinal cord will help people with spinal cord injuries.
3. As people get older their cells break down. New research where frog eggs are being used to make cells younger is being done now.
4. Multiple sclerosis is a break down of the nervous system. Schwann cells help to separate and insulate nerve cells and new procedures are being done to use Schwann cells to help with Multiple sclerosis.
5. The stomach is filled with acids that break down food. The stomach has a protection from the acid by mucus made from epithelial cells.
Evaluation
Research into using fat cells to replace neural cells can help people with multiple sclerosis by replacing the spinal cord cells. Fat cells replacing neural cells could help in other areas as well.
Conclusion
Scientists are discovering new methods to study and use cells in different ways to help people with different problems like memory loss, aging, multiple sclerosis. Continuing research is promising.
