Introduction
During this WebQuest, you will discover the 'adaptations' we and other species have to thrive in our respective environments. All organisms possess adaptations to thrive in their ecological niches. To 'thrive' in our ecological niches is to regularly satisfy our physiological requirements for being alive - see Maslow's hierarchy of needs (https://figures.boundless-cdn.com/29841/large/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_neeā¦).
- These adaptations allow us to stay alive.
Task
You will create a fact sheet on a plant or animal which outlines their adaptations for survival.
First, open up Files>Collaboration>Year 7>Science_Mrs Ryan>MR B FACT SHEET
(This is a template you can use for your fact sheet).
2. Learn about survival- Outline (make a summary of) behavioural, anatomical and physiological adaptations in your work book
http://www.skwirk.com/p-c_s-4_u-200_t-560_c-2091/adaptations/nsw/science/ecology/interactions
3. Outline the survival.
4. Research the characteristics of any plant or animal you choose
Examples: Penguins - with their _______ through the water.
Kangaroos - as they ______ to keep cool.
Gumtrees - as their leaves are adapted to the _______.
Dogs - they do not possess sweat glands, so they need to ______ to stay cool.
5. Fill in information found on the fact sheet. (e.g. where the animal is found, what the adaptation is, and how this helps it survive.
6. Find a photo of the animal or plant and insert it into the document.
7. Proof read your fact sheet and print off.
Conclusion
Physiological, anatomical and behavioural adaptations allow species to thrive in their respective environments by allowing them to respond better to stimuli, and fulfill their physiological needs.
