Introduction

On March 2 we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss.
He wrote many books for children. His books are fun to read and have unusual illustrations. Let's have fun and learn about him and his books!
Task

Oh, the things you can do!!
- You will use the internet to learn about the life of Dr. Seuss.
- Using ideas from his books, you will solve some Math problems.
- You will draw a Dr. Seuss character.
- You will make up your own Dr. Seuss type story and character.
Process
Dr. Seuss
Let's learn about Dr. Seuss.
First you will watch a video from Brain Pop Jr. about him. Then you will read about him on Facts4Me. (Your teacher can give you the username and password for both of these sights.) After you have gone to both of these internet sites, fill out the information sheet called Dr. Seuss Search that is in your packet.
Dr. Seuss Math Work
You have heard the stories One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and The Cat in the Hat. In your packet are some Math papers using the characters and actions from these books. Figure out and write the answers to the problems on all three papers. (Remember to do the back of the Cat in the Hat paper.)
Dr. Seuss Character
You can draw like Dr. Seuss. Get a piece of paper and a pencil. Click on the link below and get ready to draw as you watch. You will learn how to draw a BarBaLoot from The Lorax.
Dr. Seuss Story
Dr. Suess wrote many different stories and created some crazy characters. One of his books is called There's A Wocket in my Pocket. Watch and listen to the story here.
Now you are going to write your own Dr. Suess type story. Think about the characters in There's A Wocket in My Pocket. The boy liked some of the characters and some of them he did not. Each character's name rhymed with something in the boy's house.
Think about something in your house and make up a character you like and give him a name that rhymes with the object or place in your house.
Now think about something else in your house and make up a character to rhyme with this thing. Make this character someone you would not like.
Fill in the blanks on the pages and draw and color a picture that shows what your character looks like.
Add two or more pages where you make up the words and the characters to go with them.
You can watch the video as many times as you want to get ideas.
