Measurement Scavenger Hunt

Introduction

Do you ever wonder why your teacher thinks math is so important? 

Well, think back for a moment about how you or a member of your family used measurement yesterday. 

It is such a part of our everyday life, that we sometimes forget it's importance.

Task

Complete the scavenger hunt chart which shows your understanding of length, mass, area, and perimeter and the tools used for measuring each.

Evaluation

Answer the following questions on looseleaf paper and turn them in to your teacher:

  1. Can you think of real life examples where you would have to measure length, mass, area and perimeter?
  2. What factors do you have to consider when selecting a measurement tool?
  3. Think of a job that would use all of these measurement tools. Explain how that job would use the measurement of length, mass, area and perimeter.
