Introduction
Welcome to the ABC's
Introduction: This WebQuest was designed to help students learn or review the letter sounds and the shapes of letters of the alphabet. Letter recognition and the alphabetic principle are critical for early emergent readers and writers to master. This WebQuest uses interactive games and songs highlighting the sounds and the shape of the alphabet letters. The WebQuest is appropriate for kindergarten and first-grade students. However, it was designed as a specific intervention for a student with developmental disabilities to improve letter sound recognition and familiarity with the alphabetic principle.
Task
The Task
You are about to begin a WebQuest! With the use of interactive websites, your task will be to identify letter sounds and the letter shapes of the alphabet. The WebQuest does require assistance and monitoring from the educator.
Process
The Process
The following links are great for letter-sound recognition and the alphabetic principle.
1) First the student will review and sing the Alphabet Song with Finny the Shark by clicking on the following link:

2) The student will click on the link to the interactive Talk to Me Alphabet Game provided below to identify and listen to letter names and sounds. In the game, the student will use the keyboard to identify and listen to letter names and sounds.
3) For the third activity, the student will click the link to the Alphabet Bubble game provided below. Alphabet Bubble is a fun educational game that helps develop phonemic awareness. Children pop bubbles to match letters with words that start with the correct letter sound. Once a match is completed children are shown a picture of the word. The Alphabet Bubble Game is the most enjoyable and most difficult task contained in the WebQuest. The student will need assistance.

4) The final activity will be a review of all that has been presented in the format of The Phonics Song. The student will click on the link to The Phonics Song (presented below) and sing the song with the teacher. The teacher will introduce the song in the traditional I do, We do, and You do format.

Evaluation
| LETTER SOUNDS: BEGINNING=1 | DEVELOPING=2 | MASTERED=3 |
| Does not match any letters and sounds correctly | Matches some letters and sounds | Matches all letters and sounds |
| FOLLOWS DIRECTIONS: BEGINNING=1 | DEVELOPING=2 | MASTERED=3 |
| Difficulty in following directions | Is able to follow directions with prompts | Independent and plays games with little or no assistance |
Evaluation
The student(s) will be evaluated on an individual basis. During the evaluation, I will present a letter(s) to the student, and the student will have to demonstrate the sound the letter makes. The student(s) will be assessed by their ability to identify both letters and their corresponding sounds as well as by their ability to listen (follow directions). A rubric is provided above (3=mastery, 2=developing, 1=beginning)
Conclusion
Conclusion
You have successfully completed your WebQuest journey and have learned about the letters of the alphabet and the sounds associated with each letter of the alphabet. Tonight, I would like you to show your parents the alphabet song on your WebQuest and ask them to sing the Alphabet Song with you. Tomorrow, we will identify the letters of your name and the sounds associated with each letter in your name.

COMMENTS
Please excuse the appearance of my very first WebQuest. I used a website entitled https://www.createwebquest.com/ to assist me in my endeavor. The website was very helpful, and it provided step-by-step instructions regarding the creation of the WebQuest. My only criticism of the website is that it does not allow the use of clip art to enhance the appearance of the WebQuest pages. Other than that, the website and the experience were great!
