ABC

Introduction

Grade: PreK-1

K.RF.2.4 Identify and name all uppercase (capital) and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

Students are expected to:

Understand the alphabet both uppercase and lowercase.

Task

Objective:

After reading the book, students will be able to identify uppercase and lowercase letters. They will also be able to match the uppercase and lowercase letters to each other.

Process

Materials:

  • ABC by Dr. Seuss
  • Big wall letters (upper and lower case)
  • Pointer
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Worksheets

I will engage the class by asking if they know the alphabet song. When the students respond, we will use the big letters in the room to sing the alphabet song together 2 times. The first time, I will point at the uppercase letters. The second time, I will point at the lowercase letters.

After singing, I will go around the room and have each student say the letter their name starts with and point at the big letter on the wall. I will do that with each class.

Next, we will read the book ABC by Dr. Seuss. I will then model to the students the assignment they will do next.

Their assignment is to write their name on the worksheet. They then will draw a picture of something that starts with the same letter as their name and color it. They will finally write a sentence about the picture the drew.

Evaluation

Worksheet:

I will collect the worksheets the students completed and informally grade them. I want to make sure they understand the letter of their name and the letter of the thing they drew are the same.

Conclusion

Special Circumstances:

If I have a gifted student, I will have them write 2 sentences about their picture they drew.

If I have a child with slight learning delays, I will have them draw the picture and write just the word of what their picture is.
