In this WebQuest, you will become a team of Climate-Ready School Planners. Your task is to investigate how climate change affects Philippine schools and communities and then develop a realistic plan to make your school safer, healthier, and more prepared for future climate-related challenges.
You are not simply going to research climate change.
You are going to design a solution.
Task
Your group has been selected as a team of Climate-Ready School Planners.
Your mission is to answer the question:
“How can we make a Philippine school more prepared for climate change?”
You will investigate climate-change impacts affecting the Philippines, particularly:
- Extreme heat
- Flooding
- Strong rainfall and typhoons
- Water shortages
- Damage to school facilities
- Disruption of classes
- Health and safety risks for students and teachers
After your investigation, your group will create a Climate-Ready School Action Plan.
Final Product
Your group must produce:
- A Climate-Ready School Action Plan; and
- A poster, infographic, digital presentation, or short video presenting your proposed solutions.
Your action plan must identify:
- At least three climate-related problems affecting schools
- Evidence showing why these problems matter
- The students and people affected
- At least five realistic solutions
- The estimated priority of each solution
- How students, teachers, school administrators, parents, and the community can participate
Your solutions should be realistic for a Philippine school.
For example, instead of simply saying:
“Stop climate change.”
Think about practical actions such as:
“Create shaded outdoor learning areas to reduce students' exposure to extreme heat.”
Process
Step 1: Enter the Climate Investigation Room
Begin by learning about climate change.
Use reliable educational and government resources to investigate:
- What is climate change?
- What causes climate change?
- What is global warming?
- What is climate adaptation?
- What is climate mitigation?
- Why is the Philippines particularly vulnerable to climate-related hazards?
Write down important information and record the sources you use.
Step 2: Investigate the Philippine Situation
Your team will investigate how climate change affects the Philippines.
Research at least three climate-related impacts.
Possible topics include:

Do not collect private information about individual students.
Your goal is to identify general environmental and school-related concerns.
Step 4: Become Climate Detectives
Choose the three most serious climate-related problems affecting your school or community.
Rank them:
1 – Most urgent
2 – Very important
3 – Important
Explain why your group ranked them this way.
Use evidence rather than simply saying that a problem is important.
Step 5: Search for Solutions
Research how other schools, communities, cities, and countries are adapting to climate change.
Look for solutions involving:
- Trees and vegetation
- Green spaces
- Shade structures
- Cool roofs
- Natural ventilation
- Rainwater management
- Drainage systems
- Flood preparedness
- Water conservation
- Disaster preparedness
- Early-warning systems
- Changes in school schedules during extreme heat
- Climate education

Step 6: Design Your Climate-Ready School
Now create your school's action plan.
