Black History Month Webquest

Introduction

Imagine you are a reporter and you are assigned to find out about the life of a famous African-American. Please select a mathematician, scientist, or a prominent African-American from NYC that has made a difference in the lives of others. You will prepare a presentation, using GOOGLE SLIDES/POWERPOINT ONLY to share with your classmates.  This presentation MUST BE engaging to your audience.

Task

You are to select a mathematician, scientist, or a prominent African-American from NYC that has made a difference in the lives of others. You will prepare a presentation, using GOOGLE SLIDES/POWERPOINT ONLY to share with your classmates.  This presentation MUST BE engaging to your audience.  You can use any of the websites provided to gather information about this person.   You can also find any information from any resource.

Before starting your work on your presentation, your person of interest needs to be approved by your teacher.

Please provide the name of your African-American on a post-it.  I will then write either ACCEPTED or CHOOSE ANOTHER on it.  You will then have to CHOOSE ANOTHER and it still must be approved.

Then you can begin to organize the important information to include in your presentation.

This project is due on Tuesday, February 28th, 2023.

Process

The object of this activity is to create a presentation with all of the information that you found out about the person you have chosen to celebrate.

You will want to make sure that you are teaching your audience about this individual and how they have contributed to making our world a better place.

First, you are going to research on the Internet so that you can find a person to celebrate.  You can also dig deeper by choosing a person we have already discussed during Black History Month.

While Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. were amazing leaders- let's dig a little deeper into choosing other people that have contributed to our amazing country in other ways.

You can search the following sites to assist you in choosing someone:

 https://www.biography.com/people/groups/african-american-firsts-women

You can also do a GOOGLE SEARCH on your own.

Below are some questions that you can use to guide you as you find out about this famous women.  Don't just answer the questions.  Create your own informational presentation. Do not limit yourself to the questions listed here.  Remember to read, research, and paraphrase in your own words.  This will transform your work into a literary essay.

  2. Date this person was born?

  4. What was it about this person that helped them to succeed?
