How can I use objects to make ten?
Using the standard MA.K.AR.1.1, students will be able to combine two numbers to make ten.
Task
Students will work in pairs and use manipulatives to find two numbers that make ten. They will use either teddy bears, block, rubber ducks or counters.
Process
Students will put in pairs and given individual manipulatives.
One student pick a number 1-9, and pick up those manipulatives.
The other student will have to find the remaining number to make ten (Ex. if student 1 pick 3, student 2 needs to pick up 7 to make 10)
Students will use the corresponding worksheet to write down the equation and use two different colors to represent the two numbers the students chose.
Evaluation
The students will be evaluated using how they write out the equations. The numbers in the equations must match the order of the way it was colored. (Ex. if student 1 pick 3, student 2 picks 7 the equation should read 3+7=10)
Students will take counters home to help them further understanding while redoing a similar worksheet for homework.
Conclusion
The assignment is simply a game to keep the kids engaged and have them have fun with friends while learning.
