Introduction
Welcome, Human Body Explorers!
Have you ever wondered how your stomach breaks down food, how your lungs help with your breathing, or how your heart continues to beat? Your body is made up of many wonderful organs that work together every day to keep you healthy and strong.
In this WebQuest you will become a scientist and study the major organs of the human body. You will work with classmates, use interactive resources, and develop a digital presentation to teach others what you have learned.
Essential Question:
How do the organs in our bodies work together to help us stay healthy?
Learning Objectives
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to:
• Name the major organs in the human body.
• Explain what each organ does.
• Describe how different organs work together to keep your body healthy.
• Create a digital presentation about one organ and explain why it is important.
Florida Standard: SC.2.L.14.1 – Identify the major parts of the human body, including the brain, heart, lungs, stomach, liver, muscles, and skeleton, and describe their basic functions.
Task
Your Task
You will work with a small group to learn about one important organ in the human body. Your teacher will give you safe websites to help you find information.
Then, your group will make a Microsoft PowerPoint to teach the class about your organ. Your presentation should include:
• The name of your organ
• Where it is in the body
• What the organ does
• How it helps other organs
• Two healthy habits that keep the organ healthy
• At least one labeled picture of the organ
When your group is finished, you will share your presentation with the class. After everyone has presented, you will take a short online quiz. Then, you will write a few sentences about why your organ is important and how it helps keep your body healthy.
Process
What to Do
Step 1: Learn About the Human Body
Watch the CPALMS lesson "Play Your Part: All Your Parts and What They Do." As you watch, think about the different organs and the important jobs they do.
Step 2: Learn About Your Organ
Work with your group to learn about one organ: the heart, brain, lungs, stomach, liver, or kidneys.
Use the following resources to help answer the questions below:
• CPALMS: Play Your Part: All Your Parts and What They Do
• KidsHealth for Kids
• National Geographic Kids
Work with your group to discuss what you learned and answer the questions:
• Where is the organ?
• What does it do?
• Why is it important?
• How does it help other organs?
• How can you keep it healthy?
As a group, choose the most important information to include in your presentation. Explain why you think this information is important and why you decided to share it with your classmates.
Step 3: Organize Your Ideas
Work together to fill out a graphic organizer. Make sure everyone helps find facts and share ideas.
Step 4: Make Your PowerPoint
Create a Microsoft PowerPoint with 4–5 slides about a body organ.
Each student should:
• Help find information about the organ.
• Help create at least one slide.
• Help share the PowerPoint with the class.
Your PowerPoint should include:
• A title slide with the name of the organ.
• A picture of the organ with labels.
• Facts about what the organ does.
• An explanation of how the organ works with another organ.
• Two healthy habits that help keep the organ healthy.
• One fun and interesting fact about the organ.
Before sharing your PowerPoint with the class, work together to check your slides. Make sure the information is correct and that your classmates can easily understand it.
Step 5: Share Your Work
Present your PowerPoint to the class. Speak loudly and clearly. Be ready to answer one question from your classmates.
Step 6: Show What You Learned
Take a short online quiz about the organs in the human body.
Step 7: Think and Write
Write 3–5 sentences to answer this question:
Why is your organ important? What is one thing you can do to keep it healthy?
Use information from your research to explain your answer. Include at least one fact you learned during the WebQuest to support your ideas.

Conclusion
Great Job, Human Body Explorers!
You did it! You learned about the amazing organs that help your body stay healthy and strong.
By working with your group, doing research, and creating a PowerPoint, you learned that every organ has an important job. You also discovered that all of your organs work together to help you grow, move, breathe, think, and stay healthy.
Remember to take care of your body every day by:
• Eating healthy foods
• Being active
• Drinking plenty of water
