Imagine that you have been chosen as an Eco-Detective! Your mission is to investigate what is happening to our environment and discover how human activities can affect plants, animals, and people.
Our ecosystems provide us with food, water, air, and other resources that we need to survive. However, problems such as pollution, deforestation, improper waste disposal, and habitat destruction can threaten the balance of an ecosystem.
As young environmental investigators, you will explore reliable online resources, investigate an environmental problem, and develop a solution that can be applied in your school or community.

Task
Your task is to work in a small group and investigate one environmental problem that affects an ecosystem.
Choose one of the following:
- Plastic pollution
- Deforestation
- Water pollution
- Air pollution
- Improper waste disposal
- Destruction of animal habitats
Your group will research the chosen problem and answer these questions:
- What is the environmental problem?
- What causes it?
- How does it affect plants, animals, and people?
- What are its possible consequences if it continues?
- What can individuals, schools, and communities do to solve or reduce the problem?
Final Product
Create an Environmental Action Campaign that includes:
- A short explanation of the environmental problem
- Causes and effects
- At least three possible solutions
- A proposed action that students can do in school or in their community
- A poster, infographic, or short presentation to communicate your message
Your group will present your Environmental Action Campaign to the class.
Process
Step 1 – Form Your Eco-Team
Form a group of 3–5 members. Assign responsibilities to each member, such as:
- Researcher – searches for relevant information
- Recorder – organizes important information
- Designer – creates the poster or infographic
- Presenter – presents the group's findings
- Team Leader – coordinates the group's work
Members may help one another and share responsibilities.
Step 2 – Choose Your Environmental Problem
Select one environmental problem from the list provided in the Task section.
Before beginning your research, write down what your group already knows about the problem and what you want to find out.
Step 3 – Investigate
Use the websites provided in the Resources section to gather information.
Look for information about:
- Causes
- Effects
- People, plants, and animals affected
- Possible solutions
- Ways students can help
Do not simply copy information from websites. Read, understand, and summarize the information using your own words.
Step 4 – Analyze Your Findings
Discuss the information your group collected.
Complete this simple chain:
Human Activity → Environmental Problem → Effects → Possible Solutions
For example:
Improper disposal of plastic → Plastic pollution → Harm to marine animals → Reduce, reuse, recycle, and properly dispose of waste
Step 5 – Develop Your Solution
As a group, identify at least three possible solutions to your environmental problem.
Then choose one practical action that students can actually implement in your school or community.

Step 6 – Create Your Environmental Action Campaign
Present your findings through a poster, infographic, or presentation.
Your output should clearly communicate:

- Its effects

Step 7 – Present and Reflect
Present your Environmental Action Campaign to the class.
After the presentation, individually answer:
