Sustainability: What you can do to help

Sustainability is the ability to maintain our earth to ensure a healthy present and future for all.It can be viewed as sharing resources with others who aren't as fortunate, picking up trash and recycling, or becoming aware of changes in our climate and their causes.Sustainability is important for the resources of the planet to be able to keep producing and maintaining for the needs of man.You have been chosen as an explorer in this web quest adventure to discover the difference one kid can make to improve life on earth for others.

You will explore and discover what you can do to make a positive difference on this planet.

After completing this web quest, you will see how easy it is even one kid to take an idea and put it in motion.

Task

You will all work in groups of other students who will all contribute to the exploration and investigation. Each group will have important tasks to complete in order to complete this project. 

After completing this web quest, you will see how easy it is for kids to have an idea and put it in motion.

You will learn what other kids have done and see how one idea set into motion can  impact the planet.

When you are done with the exploration and investigation, your group will create a JEPOARDY QUIZ to test the other groups knowledge on sustainability!

Process
  • Each group will explore a different topic: RECYCLING, EATING and the EARTH, PLANTS AND THE FOREST.
  • Visit and explore the suggested websites listed for your group. You can also use your notes and knowledge from prior lessons. Be prepared to answer the following questions:
    1. What is your topic about?
    2. What is happening to our earth?
    3. What ideas does your group have for improving our enviroment? 
    4. Come up with a project your group would like to implement to help others and our earth? 
  • After the teacher has marked off your answers to the questions, your group will make a list of questions and answers related to your topic for your jepoardy quiz. This is the website that we will be using: CLICK HERE
  • Each group will present their topic followed by their quiz. 

Group 1: Recycling 

Students will learn different recycling methods and what they can do to help save the planet through recycling.  Each student will be able to evaluate what types of trash cannot be salvaged and what happens to it.

GROUP 2:EATING AND THE EARTH

Students will learn about the story of food and how that story effects the enviroment. Each student will be able to assess their eating habbits and how they contribute either positively or negatively to the earth.

Group 3: Plants and the forest

Each student will discover why plants and forest are so important for this world.  You will discover that it helps provide oxygen in the world.  You will also discover the effects of no plants, and trees and the drastic affects it is having on the world. 

Students will discover new ways in which they can help save the planet from using biodegradable resources.  They can also see how they can save on electricity, and conserve on water and how they can contribute to the saving our planet.

When your group has completed the quest and got checked off by the teacher, you will begin to construct your own jepoardy game for the other groups. You will become masters on your topic, and be able to quiz the other students on your topics!

Now that you have successfully completed this quest and reported to  the class your findings, we will all be more aware of what is going on in the earth around us. What can you do everyday to help keep the environment healthier?
