Ancient Roman girls may belong to an entirely different millennium, but they are not much different than you. 

They spoke Latin every day, so you have a lot to learn from them!

Let's get to know them a bit better...

Task

For the next two lessons you are going to travel back in time and explore what life would have been like for you, if you had lived in Rome in the first century B.C. 

You will be looking at dress, style, activities, family life, places of interest and much more!

Inquiry questions:

  • what was life like for young women in Ancient Rome?
  • where does Latin manifest itself in the culture of young women in Ancient Rome?
  • how important is tradition in the culture and indentity of young women in Ancient Rome?
  • how does classic mythology affect the culture and identity of young women in Ancient Rome?

Step 2 Watch video.

Step 3 Answer multiple choice & short answer questions in Think section and submit.

Hair, Clothes & Jewellery

Step 2 Take turns reading aloud the information.

Step 3 In groups create a poster on ONE section.

Posters will be made on cardboard and will be displayed on class walls.

Every poster must include:

  • information from VRoma 
  • pictures of artefacts
  • a vocabulary list of Latin terms and English equivalents (add a picture if you want)
  • a bibliography (remember to reference pictures too!)Posters must include information and pictures.

Be as creative you like! 

Posters must be handed in before the end of the period. To save time you may want to assign roles.

Answer multiple choice. 

Step 4 In groups prepare a role play on the myth of Apollo & Diana. Role play must be no more than 3 minutes. All groups will present before the end of the lesson.

May include music, dance, mime, comedy etc. Be entertaining! 

All role plays must contain an element of written and/or spoken Latin.
