Introduction
Today, you will be researching certain characteristics of the weather. Here you will work in groups to find solutions to a problem that is hard to predict and sometimes unexpected.
Task
With your group share what you know about the season you were assigned and brainstorm the characteristics you remember.
Process
- The teacher will assign the seasons for each group. Then, each group will brainstorm characteristics of each season.
- Then, students are going to answer the following question. What are the extreme conditions of this season, and use an image to illustrate it.
- Later, students are going to answer the next question. How does this extreme condition affect your community?
- While the students answer the question, they are going to create a flowchart with the sequence of events that occur during that season. For example, in spring, Dallas is prone to tornadoes, hail, sandstorms, and flooding. Therefore, they could use how such conditions are formed and how they affect their community.
- Finally, students are going to research possible solutions and alternatives to prevent or be prepared when this could happen.
- To conclude, students will share their project with their classmates, making them feel concerned about the importance of being prepared for such extreme conditions.
