In this lesson, we’ll become story detectives! You will learn how to actively listen to a story, look at pictures and find the main with details to support it.

Learning Objectives

Task
You and your group will listen to a story read aloud. Then, after using what you learned, you will work together to retell the story by using drawings and your own words.
Group roles and Responsibilities
- Thinker- Finds the main idea and a detail from the story
- Artist— Draws the detail from the story
- Word Keeper- Identifies words that match the drawing
- Presenter- Everyone presents the picture and explain how it connects to the main idea.
Process
1. Listening
- The teacher will read aloud to the class
- During this time, look at the pictures to understand what the story is mainly about.
- Talk
- In small group, talk with your classmates about the events that happened in the story
- Ask questions like “What is the story mainly about?”, “What details in the story help us know that?”
3. Draw
- Work together to draw pictures that show a detail from the story that supports the main idea.
4.Words
- Draw words on a sheet of paper that match your pictures
5. Share
- As a group, each of you will share what the main idea is in your own words
- Use the drawings and words to help you

Each student will be getting graded as a group, not individually
