Process
[Day1] Discovering Ingredients Around the World
Step1.
Watch the video: https://vimeo.com/14199391
Take a trip around the world through this fun video!
Look for interesting and new ingredients from different countries.
What foods do people eat in other parts of the world?
Did you find anything surprising or new?
Write down 2–3 ingredients you learned about.
Talk about them with your friends!
Step2.
Navigate to https://www.supercook.com/#/desktop and start your culinary exploration.
Pick 2–3 ingredients from the site—try ones you don’t usually use.
Look for fun and yummy recipes using those ingredients.
Write down your favorite recipe ideas in your notebook.
Can you guess where these ingredients might come from (hot place? cold place?)
Step3.
Now it’s time to plan your very own recipe book!
You can check this website for ideas: Kids Recipe Index (https://www.kids-cooking-activities.com/kids-recipe-index.html)
Here are some things you can include:
- Name of the recipe
- A yummy picture
- List of ingredients
- Easy steps to cook
- Fun facts about the food
- Where the ingredients come from (country and climate)
- Let’s also add something special about your culture to the recipe book.
- Do you eat something special on holidays?
- Does your family have a food story?
You can draw, write, or explain it in your own way!
Your recipe book will be unique and special — just like you!
[Day2] Learning Words About Cooking
Step1.
Watch the video: https://vimeo.com/771684019?share=copy
After watching the video, think about this:
How do people use ingredients from their local environment to create delicious dishes?
This shows us that food and cooking are closely connected to the climate and natural resources of each region.
Today, let’s learn vocabulary about ingredients and cooking methods!
Step2.
Today, we will start by learning the names of foods from different countries.
What foods do people eat around the world?
Step3.
Let’s take a closer look at some delicious dishes and guess their ingredients!
Look carefully at the dish name and guess: What is it made of?
Can you match the dish with its ingredients?
Example:
To make pizza, what do we need?
→ dough, cheese, tomato sauce!
Step4.
Next, let’s learn how to describe the way we cook food!
Learn action words like: chop, stir, bake, grill, boil, slice, pour, blend.
Visit the website and make carrot juice by following the steps!
Focus on the words used for cooking actions like ‘chop, pour, and blend’.

Go to the website and watch about the cooking methods: boil, grill, and bake.
Make sure you understand the differences between them, because they can be tricky!

Let’s practice! Pretend to chop, stir, bake, and grill with your hands!
[Day3] Exploring Climate and Crops
Step1.
Each group will choose one country from:
Chile 🇨🇱
China 🇨🇳
South Africa 🇿🇦
Italy 🇮🇹
Step2.
Watch the video about the five major climate zones around the world.
As you watch, think about this:
How might different climates affect the types of food people grow and eat?
https://vimeo.com/1066074957?share=copy
Visit this interactive 3D map site and explore the climates of different countries.
This map gives you a global view of climate patterns and lets you see various climate data for each region.
https://climatemaps.romgens.com/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
Find answers to these questions:
- Is it hot and dry?
- Does it rain a lot?
- Is the weather good for growing plants?
- What kind of plants live there?
Step3. Watch the video: https://vimeo.com/629116494?share=copy
Think about this:
- Why do some ingredients come from nearby, while others are brought from faraway places?
- Discover what crops grow best in your chosen country.
Use the Interactive World Map:
https://naver.me/xjUKrkUM
Select a country → The climate information will appear.
Wait 20 seconds → Pictures and a list of major crops will pop up!
[Day4]
Step1.
Do you know that Mexicans eat a dish of corn wrapped in banana peels or corn husks?
It's called tamales, and here's a video about the dish.
Click the link and watch. https://vimeo.com/515733438?share=copy
Tamales is made of corn and bananas. Mexico has a warm tropical climate, so corn and bananas grow well.
Each country has a different climate, so the main crops are different.
So each country has its own unique dish because of its different ingredients.
Step2.
You chose a country last time and learned about its climate and main crops.
Now, let's find dishes made with those crops.
Click this link to start your research.
https://www.kids-world-travel-guide.com
Click "Food around the World" on this website and select the country. Then, choose one dish that you would like to introduce in your recipe book.
Step3.
Let's learn about the ingredients and how to make the dish you chose. Click this link to start your research. https://www.supercook.com/#/desktop
Then, search the name of a dish in the big search box.
Click on the dish you find and see the ingredients.
Next, click the “View Full Recipe” button under the ingredients.
It will take you to another website where you can see the full recipe.
[Day5]
Step1.
Look at the example recipe book about tamales.
Step2.
Let's make a recipe book.
Your recipe book should have some simple information of the country, the ingredients, and the recipe.
You can also add anything you want. You can make your recipe book on the website below.
Step3.
Save the recipe book as a JPG file!
Post your recipe book on Padlet and share with the class
