"Software or Hardware? Let's Find Out!"

Introduction

Students often encounter various digital tools, gadgets, and apps daily—but do they know the difference between what’s hardware and what’s software? This WebQuest will guide them to explore, identify, and categorize ICT components as either hardware or software.

Task

You are a tech detective! Your mission is to:

  • Explore web resources to understand what hardware and software are.

  • Identify different computer components or tools.

  • Categorize them correctly.

  • Create a simple presentation or poster (digital or printed) showing your findings.

Process
  • Form Groups (Optional):

Work individually or in pairs/groups (based on class size).

  • Background Reading:

Visit the following links to understand the basics:

  • Exploration Activity:

    • Each student/group will be given 10-15 ICT terms (like CPU, antivirus, monitor, Excel, webcam, etc.).

    • Use online research to classify each term as either hardware or software.

    • Record findings in a table.

  • Create a Mini-Project:

    Choose one way to present:

    • A digital poster (using Canva, PowerPoint, or Google Slides)

    • A short skit or demo (acting out how software and hardware interact)

    • A quiz for classmates using Kahoot or Google Forms
