Introduction
This lesson focus on how students can use models and number lines to compare and order fractions.
Lesson Objectives
Students will be able to:
- Compare and order fractions different denominators.
- use lines and visual fraction models to justify comparisons.
- Explain their reasoning in writing or verbally.
Florida State Standard
MA.5.NSO.2.1- Multiply multi-digit whole numbers including using a standard algorithm with procedural fluency.
Task
For the group narrated project presentation the students will build a fraction fair booth. The students will work in small groups and create a math fair booth. Teaching each other how to compare and order fractions using visual models, number lines, and real-world examples. The groups will have the opportunity to select a fair theme from the four option chooses.
Fractions Fair Themes
- "Recipe Round-Up" - compare ingredients fractions from different recipes.
- "Pizza Party"- explain how to evenly divide pizza amount a group. Students can decide how many boxes of pizza and the number of people in the group.

Process
- The students will break up into groups of three.
- Each group will create a PowerPoint presentation. Teaching your peers how to compare and order fractions using one of the fraction fair themes.
- Your booths must include:
- Visuals
- 3-5 real world fraction comparisons
- An interactive activity
- A reflection
