Introduction
1. What is the water cycle?
2. What are the different steps of the water cycle? Draw a model. (SC.5.E.7.1)
3. What are the different forms of precipitation? (SC.5.E.7.4)
Task
To show what they learned they will draw a model of the water cycle.
Process
We will have a classroom discussion/lesson in teaching the water cycle. Once done they will break off individually. They will not be put into groups or be shown examples so that I can ensure that every student understands the topic. Another activity is we can observe the water cycle with items we have in the room. They can put water in a bottle or in a container and observe how condensation appears over time. The third activity is they can act out the steps, each student gets to play a role. A couple of them with be water droplets, or water vapor. The last activity they can do is put water in a couple different cups (same amount in each). They will flash lights over the cups, different brightness over each. This will help them learn how light impacts evaporation.
Evaluation
A: did not utilize any outside sources and correctly identified all parts of the water cycle, or got one item wrong.
B: They incorrectly labelled two items.
C: They incorrectly labelled three items.
D: They incorrectly labelled four items.
F: They incorrectly labelled five or more items. Or, they used outside sources.
Conclusion
The students will learn about the water cycle through various activities. One enrichment activity will be: https://wordwall.net/resource/39088382/science/water-cycle-match-up-5th-grade-science
