Let's communicate

Introduction

This Web Quest will enable you to enhance your Spanish by working with others and developing projects.  The question of this lesson will be ‘How can we speak in Spanish about what we do on our daily basis? and ’What would we learn regarding the daily routine that can help us know more of the Spanish culture?

This lesson focuses on Florida's State Standards for World Languages, which emphasize communication, cultures, connections, comparisons, and communities. Specifically, this lesson targets the standards that require students to engage in conversations, provide and obtain information, express feelings and emotions, and exchange opinions. The goals are designed according to Bloom’s Taxonomy and will ask you to Remember, Understand, Apply, Analyze, Evaluate, and Create. You will memorize words, understand sentences, use language in real situations, analyze differences, evaluate language, and make a PowerPoint presentation.

Task

You will work in groups to produce a narrated PowerPoint presentation. This will be the main task. Each group will analyse a daily routine topic like "A Day of a Student in Spain", but will only analyse a small part of this routine. The presentation will compare the day-to-day living of a Spanish-speaking person and an American citizen, evaluating these lives against each other.

The presentation must include the following components.

1.         An introduction to the chosen topic.

2.         A detailed description of the daily routine in a specific Spanish-speaking country.

3.         A comparison of this routine with a similar routine in the United States.

4.         Visual aids, such as images and videos, to enhance understanding.

5.         A narration in Spanish that accompanies each slide, demonstrating language proficiency.

Reliable sources include:.

4.         Content Development: The writer will draft the script for the presentation, ensuring the narration is in Spanish while using the relevant vocabulary and grammar structures.

5.         The designer will have to create the PPT with the help of visual aids that support the narration. Canva and Google Slides can be used for your design.

6.         The presenter rehearses the narration for clear articulation and fluency before recording the final output. The group will record the voice-over using Audacity or the PowerPoint recording function.

7.         In the end, all groups will review the presentation for clarity before submission to the group instructor.

Evaluation

A rubric that will be used to assess this project is below:

1.         The introduction accurately describes daily routines that take place in one Spanish-speaking country as well as those in the US (15%).

2.         The narration must use vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation accurately and appropriately in Spanish (35%).

3.         The presentation provides a well-considered analysis and comparison of differences and similarities in cultures (20%).

4.         Design and Creativity (15%): The slides look great, they are well organized, and they make the presentation better overall.
