The guiding questions for this lesson are the following:

1. What is your is your favorite part of your house?

2. What does your family look like?

3. Why did you decide to include these elements in your art work?

Task

During this lesson students will create a piece of art using different materials and colors and that represents their family and their favorite part of their house. The students will then be asked to describe their choice and why they decided to incorporate the elements they did.

Process

Pre work: In the different art stages in the class set up paper and different materials (colors, paint, pompon, tubes, glue, stickers and anything else that is needed)

Step 1: Read the following instructions out to the student: “ We are going to do an art project for the whole class to bring home to their families. In your different art tables you will see different materials and colors which you can use to complete your piece of art. In your art work I want you to think of what your family looks like and show me what they look like. I also want you to show me what your favorite part of their house is.”

Step 2: Allow students 30 min to complete the assignment, teachers and aids will be walking around to assists students

Step 3: Get students in small groups, each group should have a teacher or aid

Step 4: Read the following instructions out to students, “ Each of you will now have a chance to describe your piece of art and why you included the things you did.” If students are not volunteers call on the students by using the following statements, “ ____ (say students name aloud), do you want to tell me about your art piece. Tell me about your family and why that is your favorite part of the house. Why did you use that element to describe your mom. Or why did you use that sticker to represent a chair”

Step 5: Provide students with verbal praise and feedback if needed

Step 6: If needed create small groups for students who did not master the content and do remedial work

Evaluation

The student work will be evaluated using a rubric which incorporates the following elements:

  • Criteria 1 2 3
Level of engagement with the task The student is uninterested in doing the class and does not do anything. the students is mildley interested in task and does some work. The students is fully engaged during the lesson and tries to complete the task.
Behavior During the lesson  The students is misbehaving in the class and has to be removed from the lesson. The students needs to be called out several times but is easily redirected to the lesson. The students behaves well and  is not off task.
Completion of the task The student does not create anything and does not explain what would be incorporated.  The student does not create a fully fleshed art piece but can partially explain choices. The student creates the piece of art work and can explain their choices.

Conclusion

During this Web Quest we explore the ways in which students can create and explain choices in their art work which align with Florida Standard VA.K.C.2.1 which states that students will “ Describe personal choices made in the creation of artwork.” It will also engage Access Point VA.K.C.2.In.a which ensures students will “create personal works of art.

If any enrichment activity is needed students will do the following:

1. Think of different art works they have seen

2. Think of what they would included in the art

3. Create any piece of art

This will draw on the following standard:

VA.K.C.1.1 which states that students will, “Create and share personal works of art with others.” This is one step prior the other standard, while they do have to create and art work they don’t have to describe the choices they made.
