How do we learn?

Introduction

Have you ever learned something new like tying your shoes or reading a word?

People learn in different ways! In this activity we will learn 3 ways our brains learn:

  • Thinking (cognitive)
  • Rewards (Behaviorism)
  • Watching Others (Social learning)
Task

You will become a Learning Expert by creating a project that shows how people learn!

Choose ONE of the following:

1. Poster

  • Draw and label all 3 ways we learn
  • Include one picture/example for each
  • Write at least 1 sentence for each

2. Worksheet Page

  • Complete a teacher-provided worksheet
  • Draw pictures and fill in simple sentences
  • Match examples to each learning type

Tools You Will Use:

Depending on your project, you may use:

  • Paper, crayons, markers (for posters/drawings)
  • Printed worksheet (teacher-provided)

 What Your Work Must Include:

No matter which project you choose, you must include:

  • All 3 learning types:
    • Thinking 
    • Rewards 
    • Watching 
  • A simple example for each
  • Pictures or drawings
  • At least 1 sentence per idea

  • We learn by thinking and remembering
  • We use our brain to understand things

      2.  Reward (Behaviorism)

  • We learn when we get rewards or praise
  • We want to do it again!

3. Watching others (Social cognitive theory)

  • We learn by watching other people
  • Then we try it ourselves

With a partner answer the following questions:

  • Which one sounds like you?
  • Have you ever learned by watching someone?
  • Do rewards help you learn?

Step 3:

Teachers reads examples, students say:

  • Watching

Step 4:

 Choose ONE:

  • Draw a picture
  • Make a mini poster
  • Tell a short story

Your project must show all 3 ways we learn and a simple example for each!
