Introduction
Hello, I'm Mr. Rowland and today we'll be creating a graphic organizer on ancient Greek scholars and philosophers. Greek philosophy was the epitome of knowledge in the ancient world and thus shaped many of the concepts we still have in our society today. In order to make this organizer you'll create a presentation or some other form of media with a small fact list including dates, and important contributions of at least 3 different scholars that interest you.
Task
Answer the following questions.
1. Who was this scholar and when were they alive?
2. What was their contribution to science or philosophy?
3. How is this still relevant or used today?
Process
1. Pick a format. (Presentation, trading cards, poster, etc.)
2. Pick your scholars.
3. Assemble information. (Dates, invention, any fun facts you'd like to include)
4. Tie it back to today. (Ex. Pythagorean theorem still used in geometry)
EX. Pythagoras
570 BCE- 490 BCE
Pythagorean Theorem
Believed music and math were connected
Theory still used as best practice to determine lengths of sides of a right triangle.
Evaluation
4 Point Scale
4- Student presents a professional and creative product with all relevant information for all 3 scholars.
3- Student presents a well-made product that demonstrates knowledge of the subject but may be missing some information.
2- Student lacks organization in final product or included less than the three scholars required.
1- Student only included a single scholar or lacks majority of information on the scholars.
0- Student has no information on the scholar.
Conclusion
Congratulations! You've created a great tool to study up on your favorite Greek thinkers! You should now be familiar with a couple of them and their contributions to our lives today. Thank you for participating!
