Evaluate The author's central idea's identifying supporting evidence of the central idea of the text.

Introduction

Students will read the book, Fahrenheit 451. In this book students will learn how to evaluate the author's central idea and identify supporting details to back up the central idea of the book.

Task

Students will read Fahrenheit 451. After doing so will write a one page essay in regards to the central idea the author was trying to convey. Write about how they also support this idea through evidence throughout the book, along with what types of evidence are the most compelling throughout the story. 

Process

Students will start with an introduction paragraph with a thesis statement talking about the main idea the author has about the book. Then students with the body paragraphs write about the central idea of the book, the main evidence that supports the central idea as well as compelling evidence that supports the main idea of the book. Lastly students will write a conclusion paragraph wrapping up what they thought the main idea was and the evidence that was provided within the text.

Evaluation

Students will be evaluated based on 4 main traits.

1. Focus and details: did the student stay on topic, Was the main idea clear and precise, were the supporting evidence on point with their main idea.

2. Organization: How good was the introduction, did the student stay on topic, was the information relevant and was it in order..

3. structure, grammar, spelling: was the spelling correct, how well are the sentences structured, proper use of punctuation

4. Word choices: Were the words used correctly, The use of placement of words in a sentence

Conclusion

Overall students will write an essay evaluating the author's central idea throughout the book while also identifying how the supporting evidence makes the central idea clear. students will follow the rubric as well as the guidelines to properly write this essay. All this can be done on google docs to better support your writings.
